They didn't spread their language or culture to native people abroad. They simply couldn't. They were happy with political domination. Not cultural because they couldn't erase other cultures like the Greeks, Persian, Arabs, French etc.

English is only widely spoken because of the (former) British / and (current) American empire and their global standing. This is slowly shifting anyway.

As I said the tide is slowly turning. The Chinese should be winning novel prizes because they are absolutely smashing the technology space and catching up with the US in critical areas like AI, biotech, Quantum etc. They won't ever win a novel prizes because their scientists are CCP funded and back the govt.
