Rebecca Short, 26, wed Manuel Ovante Jr, 35, in Arizona’s Eyman state prison after the pair became penpals. Ovante was sentenced to death in 2010 for killing two a man and a woman in a botched drug robbery in 2008. The Oxfordshire woman had become pen pals with the killer, who described himself as a 'goofball' who is 'loyal' and 'easy to get along with'. The British trainee dental nurse was allegedly 'obsessed' with documentaries about serial killers in America.

One of the easier ways to get US Citizenship. Marry a guy that is on death row. You only need see him twice a month for like an hour.

She's British though, I think it would be much easier for her to get citizenship compared to some woman living in a third world country...

Not as I understand it. I have heard many stories of Euros with much more in demand skills than her trying for more than a decade to get citizenship. She is a "dental nurse trainee" which means she basically has no real skills and could make more money as a waitress. She only need to stay married to him for 2 years to qualify for full US citizenship, ordinarily that would mean she would have to live with him, but that is obviously not possible here. So I guess she would be required to live near the prison and visit him regularly, but not certain of the specifics.

Thanks. I have heard multiple stories of foreign brides filing for divorce 2 years and 1 day from the date of their marriage. Is it possible that they do this because they get a permanent green card after 2 years and can file for citizenship after a total of 5 years? (Or it is possible I just misheard, and it was really 3 years and 1 day)
