"Turkish genomic variation, along with several other Western Asian populations, looks most similar to genomic variation of South European populations such as southern Italians."

They're not only genetically similar but they have a strong resemblance. Makes fucking sense. Why would populations who derive substantial amounts of the same Anatolian ancestry alongside Southern European ancestry be easy to distinguish by sight? Only morons like X**gsane think Turks and (Southern) Italians are super genetically divergent.

These aren't so substantially different from Greece or much of (South) Italy.

Anti-Turkism is a cancer.

Average Turk is 30% Turkic 60% Byzantine Anatolian and 10% others.
Just 30% Turkic or 10% East Asian makes u completely alien to Europe
That is why even Western turks are closer to Azerfuckingbaijanis than europe
Haplogroups mean nothing
Let alone Turkey even some Turkic tribes in central asia have dominant R1a as well
Still 30% of Turkish Y-DNA is from Turkic males While Turkic mTDNA is only 5%
I think only cypriots pontic greeks and maybe cretans have similarities with turks
since turkic mixed native anatolians and these greek groups are the closest thing to native anatolian.

These are all Western Eurasians and Turks do not have high FST values with any Greek population. The fact that Turks have notable Central Asian ancestry (which is not a highly divergent ancestry from Southern Europe) doesn't make them not close to (other) Europeans. Even the East Asian isn't enough. We still see low FST distances between Turks and various Europeans. Obviously they're closer Azerbaijanis, but Azerbaijanis are ALSO relatively close to (various) Europeans. That point is noted since people will say "Slavic" ancestry in Turks is what shifts them to Europe. But Southern Italians don't even have high levels of Northern/Eastern European ancestry and various West Asians as the study notes are close to Southern Europeans. Genetics are clinal so of course Central Asian ancestry increases in Azerbaijan and Iran but that ancestry is LESS divergent than that which makes Arabians more distant to (other) West Asians.

FINNS are more distant to most NORTHERN Europeans than Turks are to most Southern Europeans (really only the "isolates" like Basques and Sardinians).
