Denmark’s government on Friday announced an agreement to ban access to social media for anyone under 15, ratcheting up pressure on Big Tech platforms as concerns grow that kids are getting too swept up in a digitized world of harmful content and commercial interests.

The move would give some parents — after a specific assessment — the right to let their children access social media from age 13. It wasn’t immediately clear how such a ban would be enforced: Many tech platforms already restrict pre-teens from signing up. Officials and experts say such restrictions don’t always work.

Such a measure would be among the most sweeping steps yet by a European Union government to limit use of social media among teens and younger children, which has drawn concerns in many parts of an increasingly online world.

Speaking to The Associated Press, Caroline Stage, Denmark’s minister for digital affairs, said 94% of Danish children under age 13 have profiles on at least one social media platform, and more than half of those under 10 do.

This will just give hackers more advantage if they enforce linking Identification. Especially important ID that is tied to accounts or educational/government certificates

IMO a good parent will not let a kid on social media on the first place, this wouldnt be needed if there were more parents like that

That should be how it should be promoted ideally, through educating parents and incentivising them in caring for their children's digital life. Though that requires resources and is not a short magic miracle, which is what politicians are addicted to nowadays. They are apparently trying to integrate Zero Knowledge Proof for identification, but the app page on Github details too many issues. I pity the idiots who trust the government with their data no matter how benign. Anything , even the smallest piece of data can be used to know who you are and use it against you, but the pro surveillance people cant be reasoned with

same shit is happening in australia, i think the premise is good but forcing people to send their government issued ID to 3rd party jewdrone apps is bullshit, we should just have phones or a different operating system that can be used to blacklist certain things

Idgaf honestly about chat control. I'm convinced they already read people's messages and scan their phones etc. even if it's not ''legal''. Changes nothing.
