I remember my dad used to always talk shit about my friends and say there were losers and bums. He would also tell me from a very young age that “people will just fuck you over so most people aren’t worth being friends with”. I also remember being really young and coming back from the nearby neighborhood from playing with friends and he was getting pissed and saying “why do you spend so much time over there what the fuck are you doing” jfl I feel like I was socially conditioned by him to be a friendless loser

My parents were like that, but they were nicer.
I guess they were trying to teach me that one day, everyone goes his way. Thus, spending too much time for something ephemeral is a waste... aka "work hard, get money and the rest will follow".
