Basically it comes down to mental resilience and sacrifices.

Like most Asian countries dont and didnt have welfare support like in the western countries do, and were poor.

So to support a child for college or Uni’s tuition would cost a house worth basically. And usually it is either your sisters or brothers who would have to work low paying job and save to support your college tuitions. And they themselves didn’t grt a chance to go to Uni. Unless scholarships.

Meanwhile musculinity in the west is mainly about physicality, likes muscles, beard.

asian standards are make more sense but make life worse since everyone is working competitively

i much prefer to live in and promote non materialistic societies as a materialist

I feel like what you described is not too dissimilar from how it has typically been upheld in the west, actually.

The whole superficial perception of masculinity that has caught fire in the west, which prizes physical characteristics like you described, is just an aesthetic that young men online have coopted for fun. It doesn't actually have to do with philosophies of masculinity in a really meaningful way. Still shouldn't be ignored, though.

masculinity in the west has also been associated with power, logic, honor, chivalry - essentially what it means to be a gentleman

physical characteristics like muscularity and brute force were only seen as masculine among the lower classes

Roman painting of Mars in Pompeii, god of war and violence. Mars is also associated with the male sex.

as you can see, not physically masculine in the modern trashy sense

what you said about the west is not true at all

the main social hub in ancient athens was of the gym and spartans worshipped athleticism aswell

the romans in rome proper were the also very obsessed with it being against unathletic intellectualism since it wasn’t roman

none of this goes against what i said

theres a whole list of traits besides physical ones you can look at, thats the point

OP never mentioned them, so i had to

It is a water knowledge like even in the ancient rome, they put significant importance on physical prowness

its not the same as making it a dichotomy between mental resilience and physicality like in your post, thats misleading

You are right

But still the physical prowness is more emphasized in the west.

If a dork acting like a thug he wouldnt be respected in the west, despite it fits into your description.

At best the attitude is secondary to the physical prowness

being a thug has nothing to do with masculinity, and thugs are not respected in general
