Have short, completely straight hair that is shaved down to a 2/3 on back and sides, now has grown to a 3 or 4. Top is left longer, generally trimmed with scissors manually, and parted. Every hair is perpendicular to scalp unless it becomes about 3 cm long, then it will bend under its own weight (like the longer top hairs)

When lighting is bright I can see straight through to the scalp, uniformly everywhere that it's short. So the sides, and lower back (since its faded shorter in those areas). Cannot see scalp where the hair is long, like middle since the top is left longer.

Is this diffuse thinning, or is it normal since my hair is just straight and short? When I google diffuse thinning it looks 1000x worse than what I have since it's not uniform and tends to be much more exaggerated and patchy. Also I've been able to see straight through to scalp when my hair is short since I was a teenager so one more reason to not think its balding, unless I have shit genes. 23andme genetic test said I'm less likely to bald

I can recall at least one or two comments in my life where someone said they can see straight through to my scalp. I think it's more because my hair is so straight that there's more room between the hairs for light to pass

Also have a lot of white hairs in the back of my head, all grouped at the upper back back of skull next to the top of the ears. Have them elsewhere but very low density. For now it looks fine but later should I just accept salt and pepper or dye it? Still in late 20s.

Thanks

Cope.

It is 100% diffuse thinning. You don't see your scalp and notice some hairloss unless 30-40% of your hair is gone. Only after that will the scalp become visible (as has been pointed out to you).

As to your thinking that it's not as bad as the images you saw on internet, it's because those images show the advanced stages when almost all hair is gone/become extremely thin. Those images are your future.

I have the exact same condition, and it was pretty hard to digest initially, but that's the truth. You better accept it as soon as you can, so that you can at least take some action and save your hair. Read some anecdotal evidence here itself that fin is effective in this condition.

its been the same for like 10+ years though. Wouldn’t it be getting worse? If for example you cut your hair extremely short you will always see your scalp because there’s almost no hair covering it right. Like when you shave it off and it just starts growing back of course you will see the scalp. My hair is quite short and also perfectly perpendicular to the scalp so there’s nothing to block view to the scalp. When my hair gets long enough you can’t see my scalp or at least nowhere but the shortest parts.

I have diffuse thinning for 8 years. Year by year it's getting worse but it's too slow. Try microneedling and PRP. My friend postpone inevitable result, having a hair like this.

My hair is not like this though, it’s straight and short and there are no patches at all, it is uniform. Also all of my blood relatives have hair into old age

It’s been the same since I was 18 and started cutting hair shorter lol, years before I did half dose half cycle and low dose trt.

Because you were genetically predisposed to hair loss. Roiding just accelerated the inevitable.

It hasn’t accelerated at all though. It’s the same. And it’s uniform which makes me think it’s just the fact my hair is short and straight

No buddy, it's hair loss.
That you roided up is even bigger of a red flag. It may be the case that the hair loss happened when you were roiding, but when you cycled out of that, the rate of hair loss slowed down. This may be the reason you think that it's been the same for 10+ years.

Reading that did make me realize though that in my case also it's the same thing. When I was on a cycle, my diffuse thinning was drastic and sudden, but it's been ~3 years and it's by-and-large still the same density and thickness.
This may be lifefuel since it would mean that if we can get a treatment then they will return to their normal volume. Maybe? You willing to do an experiment with me?

My dad also lost his hair in the same way, through diffuse thinning with very less receding. But he didn't suffer it till his 50s.

I’m saying my hair was “thin” before I ever had exogenous testosterone injected

my dad at 50+ doesn’t seem to have drastic thinning but definitely has some so that’s not too horrible
