What causes the browridge aka supraorbital ridge to grow? I theorize that testosterone actually has minimal effect on its growth and that something else may influence it. The reason I believe this is that I see plenty of women in real life with a browridge and some men with none. There are also two people I know in real life who are brothers. They are High T. The older brother had a square jaw which I rarely ever see in real life with a heavy stubble. His browridge is not very prominent. His brother is in the same situation, good lower jaw but no browridge. What could possible cause this? I also read somewhere that bone is laid down on the browridge to resist the force of the temporalis muscle during mastication?

Genes.

it’s definitely related to testosterone, but also genetics. for example you could have high test and still an average or below browridge simply because your ancestors haven’t had that trait and therefore you will instead develop other masculine features but not a strong browridge. For example, Dwayne Johnson is extremely high T obviously but his browridge is pretty unremarkable. He has very strong jaw and cheekbones, however.

another random example off the top of my head of the dichotomy between hormones and genetics is how asian men tend to rarely have facial hair, even with high testosterone, their genetics simply do not allow them to grow it usually. I believe facial hair must also be related to environmental factors - notice how men from colder, northern european countries almost always have facial hair, perhaps it is a genetic adaptation to help them stay warm in a cold environment.

Was with you up until the asian thing. Beard growth is dht linked and asians have a gene mutation resulting in far lower dht than other races which is the main reason why they struggle to grow beards. Genetics are involved too but androgens allow you to reach that genetic potential.

there is a theory that chewing increases it but the research is shaky

Just a gene like with height imo. Maybe factors affect it but it's mostly genes. My entire family on my dad's side has massive browridges (even women). It's probs cold adapted genes.

I got quite a prominent one even though not a single other bone in my body is masculine. (not meant to be a humebrag, it looks weird with my other features tbh)

@Copemaxxing has way better hooding than me, mine's worse than my dad's which is probs coz of my mum's genes.

Ah that is interesting. Never heard about the gene mutation thing. Makes sense though, DHT is responsible for body hair in general and I’ve noticed my asian friends always have no hair on their arms/legs etc.
