Do braces really fuck up maxilla among other things?

I had braces, I was already recessed but the rubber bands slightly fucked my maxilla, but also my tongue was not on the roof of my mouth whatsoever, avoid rubber bands and mew, if your lower jaw needs to come forward get shit that doesn't pull the maxilla back
