Is there a certain age when it becomes very difficult to move the teeth around?

Depends what kind of braces. Normal braces that move teeth will work. Braces that move bone like MSE or facepullers will barely/ not work for adult males cause the bone is too thick.

MSE still works. It specifically is bone borne after splitting the suture to get around the original problem of most palatal expansion. That's why you typically see some Zygos width added on post MSE ceph scans (nothing major, the major benefits is widened airways and palate).

OT: They are just as hard post puberty as they are at 30. They are far less malleable which is why it would take forever to get bone change by something like daily hard chewing whereas a young teen would see results in months.

Aveolar bone is more plastic than the rest of your facial bone.
