I’m 24 (things are over pretty much now anyway). I have had acne for 10+ years (It’s the cystic autoimmune type *not just regular spots).

What I’ve tried in order of what’s mentally tortured me the most:

- Dairy free for 6 fucking years! (no pizza, no happiness) started at 18 just decided it’s not worth it at age 24 (Pizza back on the menu).
- Antibiotics for 4 months at age 23 (really didn’t want to take this poison… I waited until I was 23 to try them in a desperate attempt.. they worked while I was on them, but they left me with worse ibs… pain… shits)
- Gluten free for a year (didn’t work)
- A.I.P diet for a month (literally all I ate was meat and non starchy veg)
- sugar free diet (what I’m on now)
- tretinoin 1 year - didn’t work
- adaplene 1 year - didn’t work
- benzoyl peroxide - doesn’t work
- salacylic acid - doesn’t work
- niacinamide - doesn’t work
- vitamin c - doesn’t work
- pore strips - make things worse
- double cleansing - doesn’t work
- steaming
- hot compress
- cold compress
- caveman routine (no washing face… actually worked for three years, but I’m pale af, so I need sun protection)
- acid peels
- Azelaic acid
- Led therapy
- IPL
- laser

The question is do I now take accutane (I can pick it up from chemist tommorow as it’s been prescribed to me now), but risk inflammatory bowel disease, depression (well worse depression), balding. Or do I just accept the fate that acne and scarring is just who I am and at age 24 it’s not worth the risks?

What would you do? I’m already wage slaving with £12k in bank for double jaw, but I’m now thinking it’s all pointless.

Life is a curse, I want a lotto win 😓

Why not just go caveman again if it worked? If you need sun protection just wear big ass hats that don’t let the sun touch your face

Just hop on accutane ffs...

Check your gut, check hormones, check blood. This should be your priority.

Dont forget stress. Ray peat is imo the best diet when you dont have any knowledge regarding digestive system and biochemistry.

Antibiotics fuck you over long term, you need to restore gut bacteria, so you have to start eating fermented food (sauerkraut (not from suppermarket but self made), kefir (from raw milk and self made with kefir tubers), and so on. Dont mess with supplements, most of them dont work.

Thanks for the advice I’m currently doing 18:6 intermittent fasting hoping that may help, but not sure. I have had gut issues since 18 nothing I seem to do helps.

It worked for a while, but when I got to 19 it started to flare and I thought I’d adapt a skincare routine with sun protection in to stop scars from getting worse.

Why would it?
I’ve just read the side effects In the pamphlet and it can cause inflammatory bowel disease, intercrainal hypertesnsion, diabetes, vision loss. Idk

Yea for like 1 in 1000 people. I was on it and had no side effects except for the expected dry skin.
