Do retainers prevent you palate from expanding

If you have a permanent retainer in does it prevent palate growth (mouth getting wider or more forward)
 
how many teeth does the permanent retainer cover
 
if mewing is real then yea you can get results with a fixed retainer that covers your front 4 teeth
