It is indeed either a 1/1000 thing or a memory of the past.

I quote the story of Bible's Job as an example. God allowed Satan to struck him with leprosy, make him lose all his wealth, 7 sons and 3 daughters. And after all this, his wife still stood by his side, although she insisted that Job should curse God and die, yet she still was with him.

This man had nothing, not even his body, of which was left nothing but ugly mess. She indeed was there for his soul alone, at least that's the conclusion that I came to, there's no other reason to be with such a crippled man.
