If so, what gives you reason to believe that?

I think most users here who are labeled as "high IQ" are just aspies who spaz out over niche looksmaxxes and have an extensive amount of knowledge on craniofacial. Not to dismiss or detract from their intelligence, but that's honestly what I think. Of course, there's variance, some users on here may very well be intellectually gifted.

I am instantly disqualifying those who proclaim to be high IQ. Signifies low intelligence and midwittery in every facet as far as I'm concerned. Much like those who claim to be psycho/sociopaths, it's nothing but an antic to appear tough. A real psychopath wouldn't bother outing themselves as such, they have nothing to prove to anyone, simply are what they are.

I personally believe my father is intellectually gifted, or at the very least on the far end of the bell curve. An incredibly well-rounded, self-sufficient, and literate man. He's never formally taken an IQ test, so it's undetermined, but his comprehension of things surpasses mine by leagues. My older brother has taken an IQ test, his results were around 120 if I'm remembering correctly. He has a pragmatic, black & white personality, but his memory and learning curve is very steep. An excellent chess player as well, and talented at mathematics. He's the sole reason I passed summer school.

As for myself, I don't think I'll ever take an IQ test, and if I do, I wouldn't share my score with anyone. I'm already in my head enough about my capabilities and it's certainly not in my best interest to be constantly reminded of a score I dislike every time I mess up.

I'm writing this because of a comical encounter I had today with a user who so adamantly insisted he was exceptionally high IQ despite typing like a moron and not accepting his own faults. To no surprise, he was an ethnic.

I've taken quite a few of those online tests and usually score very highly but I still don't believe I'm high IQ. I attended a tier 1 university and work in the tech industry and I've met some actual geniuses I once knew a guy who could think through an entire problem and mentally visualize the code before even touching the keyboard.

There was this systems guy who could debug kernel-level issues like he was reading a novel, and another who could design scalable backend architectures off the top of his head without referencing a single document.

This is what real high IQ and extreme intelligence looks like. Im nothing compared to these people.

I feel the same way. I've met a few individuals who I truly believe have IQs in the 160-170 range. The sheer cognitive capabilities and problem-solving approaches of those people were astounding. All of them worked for Boeing alongside my dad, one being a Citrix engineer and one being an infrastructures specialist. I've noticed people with high IQs tend to have sharp wit and a dry sense of humor, unlike those on the lower end of intelligence who seem to struggle with interpreting sarcasm and when to laugh.

ive taken some online iq tests and i tend to score pretty high although i still doubt myself a lot, especially when i make mistakes i cant help but think to myself "how can i possibly be high iq after making such a mistake." even though im aware that high iq people are not infallible.

I think metacognition signifies above-average intelligence. If you contemplate your own thought process or intellect there's a chance you're an outlier, or not, it depends. Most normgroids don't have inner-monologue and thus don't think these sorts of things. If you can recognize your own shortcomings and think of ways to avoid it in the future, I think it's safe to assume you're a smart person.

I’ve taken these tests before when I was younger and I would score quite high simply because of the ability to spot patterns and at times, solve basic math problems. It is by no means a good indicator of IQ (a genetic trait). I think I’m of very average IQ, or perhaps slightly higher, but within 1SD for sure; I simply got obsessed with maths and physics for a while and that’s it.

I don’t think I absorb information/knowledge quicker than others.

I’ve never cared to test it. Whatever intelligence I have, it’s mostly in pattern integration and synthesis, not the kind of memory puzzles those tests rely on. The number wouldn’t tell me anything I don’t already know about how my mind works.

IQ is just a measure of processing bandwidth, not awareness. It tells you how efficiently someone can rearrange the existing pieces, not whether they realise the board itself is arbitrary. Real intelligence isn’t just speed or abstraction, it’s the capacity to see the frame, to notice when the pattern itself is wrong.
High IQ without that meta-layer often just produces clever conformity, aka people who can optimise systems they’ll never transcend.

When I got it tested in school my iq was around 127 so yeah objectively, I am

On other tests gauging intelligence I did excellent too, particularly reading and writing

All around, if I do something and really try I’m usually pretty good at it like nearing the top tiers of whatever activity it is whether it be music, gaming, drawing

I play strategy games with some of the best players in the world on the leaderboard

Also I just realized reading this back that I am also retarded

Because I am gifted in so many ways

And I squandered everything

So yes, im pretty intelligent, but there’s also a part of me that is incredibly lazy, and dumb, because I never take advantage of what I get. I’m too high inhibition and lazy

Individual IQ score matters more tbh you can have an IQ of 105 but have like 130 in something which gifts you a career

People tell me I have high iq normally and I get complimented for my intelligence and etc, nobody irl denies me. I get good grades (although they're quite easy to do so esp in school lol)

However, my shortcomings are obvious, for example, my brain tends to collapse more and youd see in more dumb moments. I tend to misread the situation so using the wrong approach because I misread. If I dont misread the situation, I will usually be frighteningly accurate.

I also tend to be really good at precognition aka seeing the problem happening that is arising before it escalates, and imo that's where my trait is best at.

but I am very prone to making stupid mistakes because of my tendency to have the mental collapses where I severely underperform my normal levels (happens like 1/10 times if not kept in check)

I dont think I am very smart, but i do think I process things better

This doesn't mean i am smart, because i tend to be although not manipulated easily, I reach into situations where I dont know how to escape from being mistreated socially

I receive compliments on my intelligence a lot, though I really just think it's set and setting. You could bring up a couple random facts you know in a related conversation and tie them all together and suddenly normies see you as a genius. I also have shit grades, 0.0 GPA for the past few months, I suffer from laziness but I also dislike applying myself to nonsense and superfluous classes with no real-world benefit.
