I am experimenting with a new work out technique that involves training past failure.

To explain the technique, I'll use training quads as an example. I will perform 1-3 exercises until I reach failure, once I reach failure I will transition to an exercise like goblet squats with a light weight to train the muscle beyond failure. The final exercise has to be light and easy to perform or fail to prevent injuries.

Is this dangerous/stupid for maximizing muscle growth?

i'm not knowledgable in this technique so i would need to do some more extensive research but it sounds pretty bad for muscle growth and the increased risk for injury

For compund lift 1 rep shy, else till failure

did this once. never again, got injured. i just say go till failure but it could work for u who knows

its called a "drop set" lil bro

I suppose I will need to take into consideration recovery time to make this method more effective. What exercise did you injure yourself on?

dont do it, train to have 2-3 reps before failure, it's a stress for a body and also higher risk of injury

Literally a drop set?

Training till form failure is beneficial for hypertrophy yeah, but constantly pushing to failure in every set can increase the risk of injury.
Generally speaking do them only on the last set.

Oh and don't worry you won't get hurt unless you're a meathead and don't know proper form.

I think I explained the idea poorly. The idea is to have a main movement which you perform until you achieve failure on the last set and then transition to a secondary movement, which is light and low injury risk exercise, to complete a few more reps until complete failure. In practice this would look like performing bench press for your main sets and then press ups to push yourself beyond failure.

This is basically drop sets.

I don't train at all

Nothing wrong with that, if it was on every set you'd set up your next set for trouble and potential injury.

Personally I do it like this, for 3 sets
1st set : 2 left in the tank
2nd set: 2 left in the tank
3rd set: 0-1 left in the tank.

Then you'd proceed with your back off light work, nothing bad about it if its light weight and a low risk exercise
