For me, it's because I have to take a picture of myself and actually see the picture I took (suifuel) and post it. There is also the fact that I don't like people knowing things about me without me personally telling them myself. I've been on Instagram before when I was 16 and got a few followings from staceylites and one Stacey (she probably miss-clicked, lmao). Maybe I'm just to high inhib to do social media.
