Do you need to train abs to get them ?

I'm not extremely lean yet but I've dieted a lot and lost a lot of weight last year but while my face and some parts of my body have become leaner my abs haven't changed at all.
These were my abs a little over a year ago.

These are my abs now

Do I really need to train them to develop them or do I need to get more lean?
Difference in both pics is 13kg

Abs are like any other muscle and need work + progressive overload
or you can be a genetically lucky bitch and have them by default.

But for them to really show you need low bf

Most of the time no. Everyone has them, you need low body fat to show though and training them will make them bigger

i've had defined abs my whole life even after rotting and doing no exercise for ~3 years during my teenage years. it's all body fat percent. if you can't see your abs, you're probably 18%+ body fat.

I doubt I'm above 15 %
