my opinion: The sexual revolution meme is leaving a lot of men dry, and so they figure that they have to change to an alternate theatre of battle. Also, men seem to use religion as a crutch from when the crotch is not getting exercised - e.g., the 9/11 men that thought they had a better chance with the "72 virgins", etc.

Can't read the article since I don't have an accout, so link is pointless. I suspect the article says that the percentage of young men in the Church has not changed, but that percentage of young women in the Church has dropped a lot. I doubt many young men in the US recognize the gross asymmetry of the broad dating market, and that being in a Church ecosystem provides them better odds. I suspect it has more to do with many women being told constantly by the news media and their teachers that they are being oppressed by men.

Religion is a giant coping mechanism, men need to cope more than women nowadays. And they're all written entirely by men so maybe it shouldn't be expected that women relate to it. But in most of the world, women are more religious and conservative than men, especially past a certain age as it has a lot more to offer to families than to single people.
