Question for Americans, personally I never tip even on expensive orders.

And also do you think tipping culture should be abolished?

Yes.
I still tip though assuming they actually wait the table, I've empathy for low-pay workers as a former wagie NEET. I don't tip if the service is poor though.

If it’s a nice restaurant and I have a hot server then I do

Do you think it’s a requirement? I feel like it’s not my responsibility to tip for something their employer should be paying them for. The only reason tipping is so common here is because they choose to save money by paying employees less. But even then the employers affecting the employees negatively, shouldn't affect me negatively just because I want to eat. Its illogical.

No

It's not, but it's a kind thing to do
It becomes different when its a requirement

John (the owner) underpays Max (the waiter), so Peter (the customer) feels bad and tips to help. Over time, Max sees tipping as normal since everyone does it. Eventually, he expects it as part of his income.

It goes from a kind gesture to a moral obligation, and this is extremely common here, its like 50% at the least

It is conceptually bad and I think it should be illegal to underpay for tips but I still do it, I'm not changing the system. I also only eat out like once a week or every other week

Why?
Because I understand how frustrating it is to deal with people as a waiter since I have many friends who work in this field. Also the nicer the waiter is to me, the more I tip

U having to deal with those people should be part of the job and the wage, not a reason for u to get tipped

I dont see construction workers being tipped for every minor inconvenience

Oh wait I haven't read that it's on food delivery and not in restaurant. Then I tip only if I pay with cash or if I know the delivery guy

If it's a foid I'll give her false hope by giving her a big tip then taking the money away last second instead whipping my 9x8 out

But they don't have to be nice to you. If they come out of their way to make your experience better why shouldn't they be rewarded with a little tip? Of course I don't tip assholes

They do have to be nice, every job description every says you have to respect the customer + 99% of their “kindness” is just not having an attitude, which again is part of their respect

Also I've been working construction and I've been making more money than my friends who were waiters even with their tips.

And money aside I prefer working construction over being a waiter since I don't have to deal with people for 10h a day. If you're a honest construction worker and do everything how it should be done people won't be rude to you while as a waiter people will complain to you no matter if it's your fault or not

There is a difference between "being kind" (just not being an asshole) and going out of your way to make the experience better (giving recommendations, asking if the food is nice, trying to make some small talk without being too intrusive)

But i assume as a construction worker u get paid for ur actual work, not based on whether customers feel nice that day. You make more than waiters, even with their tips, because ur employer actually pays you, instead of putting their responsibility onto customers

Also waiters have to be nice its part of their job, just like any job that has to do with customers, like i said respect is a requirement for their job, extra stuff like recommendations or small talk, isn't some insane effort its just standard service, but since tipping is so ingrained, they expect extra pay just for doing whats already required

Just realized I made the same mistake. I've never ordered delivery but if I did I wouldn't tip

The US is a deranged shithole, people should riot but instead submit themselves to gynocentrism and wageslave
