When I was retiring I got a medicinal checkup and the doctor said I’ll eventually go deaf

I have experienced it twice, for like an hour or two. Scary shit. I think both times it immediately preceded getting sick.

Yes it can be very annoying or tiresome etc when you first get it. After a while - like a few years - your brain just tunes it out.
