Does a retainer = recession

I had a palate expander + braces, and took it off when i was 14. I haven't worn my retainer in 18 months because I thought it would keep my face recessed from the braces.

I've noticed some jaw misalignment and teeth shifting, so I went to the dentist, and they told me to wear my retainer or get a new one fitted. Do I ignore them or actually wear my retainer?

I'm also considering more orthodontics/headgear, which would destroy my bite anyway, but I've already had an expander.

Wear your retainer and you can hardmaxx your jaw later in life as you get older its harder and less professional to have a retainer or some form of tooth aligner

I'm hoping to gat marpe, maybe later along when I'm 18-20. I've got brace off today and getting retainer next week, ur best off wearing the retainer and if u find any problems you can fix the with orthodontist

idk I stopped wearing my retainer after about 2 months and my teeth shifted slightly but I did notice that I had become slightly recessed from the braces.

You’re so stupid. Braces and a palate expander basically saved you from recession, at this point you’re most likely back at baseline. You don’t get your braces off until they’re straight and straight teeth means a good jaw. So basically now your parents are going to have to pay for braces again and you’ll have them late into highschool and be made fun of. If you don’t then you’ll be recessed for life. Good luck
