Does fake tan/suntanned skin work better on white people than non-white people?

Asking because I tried "dark" fake tan from an unopened bottle in a supermarket on my leg and the undertones came out much worse than expected. Expected nice and bronzy like you see on TikTok and Insta, instead it came out vomit tier.

All I expected was a little glow in addition to my actual skin, which is already like a medium-deep colour if we're going by white standards (and light if we're going by ethnic standards).

I DO pass as Mediterranean, but I'm white/Arab/black. A bit less than half white.

I tan very quickly when I'm in the sun and I rarely peel, but I prefer not to tan, so I cover up with a baggy t-shirt, loose cargo shorts and a bucket hat and sunglasses in addition to factor 50+ sun lotion.

I don't want skin cancer either.
