Well, it depends on the town...If you live in a poor place, even a shitty car can give you a considerable boost in smv, if you live in an affluent area where expensive cars are pretty common, it won't make any difference - Elliot Rodger for example had a BMW, but he lived in the relatively wealthy parts of L.A. and California, so it didn't make him stand out in any way...

In Romania you are only allowed to drive certain micro-cars at 16 - they look like crap and cost too much for what they offer, but if you have one your status in high-school is huge - it means your parents are filthy rich if they can afford to waste $10k to buy you a car that will become pointless in two years.
