Does having bands with braces cause recession?

I recently got told by my orthodontist that I need to start wearing bands with my braces but I’m a bit worried it might fuck me up

Yeah as far as I understnad retraction is inevitable in any case. There's no anchorage to control the movement. The bands simply pull towards eachother so i'd assume it's some forward movement of the lower and some retraction of the upper (in case of an overbite)

I personally stopped wearing mine

Ignore that typo. Did you orthodontist notice u weren’t wearing them and if u had an overbite did the braces alone still fix it?

fuck no, it ruined me and a lot of others. overbite or underbite ur still getting ruined by that scammy industry. dont get bands no matter what

I mean yeaaah she did notice it but I could care less
My teeth are straight already, thankfully i didn't have any extractions so ig it couldnt have possibly made my face worse
No braces alone won't fix overbite but mine seems pretty fine (it was a very tiny gap to begin with)

if you care about your face and breating then i'd strongly advice against wearing them (generally)
