does lens distortion really make that much of a difference?

when i take a selfie with arm length my fwhr is 1.45 but when i take a selfie (with the same lens) but with 2m distance then my fwhr is 1.73. How is that possible? I know that lens distortion is a real thing but there is no way that it makes that much of a differnence? any suggestions?

well yeah but lens distortion cant be that much of a thing. like then most tiktok slayers would have high asf fwhr which would make them uncanny irl.

how can i take good vids or pics then? them htns and cl's on tiktok look good even with lens distortion
