Recently I came across 2 studies that portrayed BDNF as a negative regulator of growth.
As much as I am inconclusive on this, I thought it would be good to share what I found.
It is commonly known that the use of stimulants and drugs like SSRIs, Amphetamines and nootropic peptides increase BDNF exprssion - directly or indirectly.

  2. 22700586
The first study showed that the removal of central BDNF in mice lead to longer femurs, higher bone mineral density and bone mineral content.

The second study showed us that BDNF inhibits IGF-1 stimulated proliferation through inhibiting the ERK pathway (through p38 MAPK activation which suppresses ERK signalling) which leads to less chondrocyte proliferation.

IMG 7883

This shows us that through BDNF increasing p38 MAPK pathways, the ERK pathway which promotes chondrocyte proliferation is inhibited.

Does this mean that we are stunting our growth through the use of nootropics? What do u guys think?

Well, would it be that big of a difference in height? Were you able to conclude something from this?

I have said that I found this inconclusive at the start however I found this interesting and if anyone else had any ideas on this

U can also look into the studies I gave the PMIDs for and see if anything feels conclusive to u

Im a retard so I wont try and answer entirely. You may be onto something, though, because think of how many niggas in college and shit who abuse stuff end up being short and recessed but very plastic and adaptable.

Oops I skipped that

Well, it could definitely be true. I can get on my laptop in a sec and go read to see what I think. Either way, I wouldn’t stop the use of anything just because of this.

Maybe if I slept from 10-14yo instead of playing skyblock all day, I’d be taller lmfao

Jfl im going of the studies though, thanks anyways

Lmao, yeah - I myself am starting concentra but wouldn’t stop because of this but i did find it cool

See this is what I don't like, just accept it bro we both saw that video it's not that deep

"No?" :feelswhy:
I definitely saw the video but i used a completely different second study - I was starting on concentra for my ADD as i have mentioned in a previous post so I wanted to look into it and I did get my first source from TikTok yes but i read the source by myself and linked different parts of the source

See it's not that hard to give in innit

I wasn't going to accuse you off stealing info off tiktok anyway it's good that you're spreading the info

Thanks but i was not tryna steal anything i found it intresting and looked further into it because i was going to start on prescribed stimulants anyways.

Look into concerta itself afaik stimulants are linked to stunting height both directly by affecting chondrocytes and indirectly through forcing dietary changes e.g. through suppressing your appetite.

Even caffeine is linked to being detrimental for height growth, take a look into it

Effects of SSRIs that increase BDNF expression have a negligible effect on linear height growth and unless your slamming 12 grams of mushrooms or taking hard drugs you won't have any noticeable changes compared to if you didn't take them.

Hope this helps!

Unless of course your in puberty or your body has high sensitivity to these genes, so just be careful(Also why take nootropics or drugs before 18?)

Lots of ppl on this forum do so i thought it could be helpful, and lots of people are on prescribed meds

If you use nootropics your growth should be stunted.

This is known but i was explaining specifically through the increase in BDNF which inhibits the ERK pathway

I dint think it would be anything of significance even if it did inhibit igf1 pathways
There are many "things" that vould potentially affect height growth but also, these are studies done on rats and until we have human studies no conclusions can be made.

yeah ik I said that it’s inconclusive

Those papers dont really show that BDNF stunts growth. The longer femurs were seen in mice where BDNF was completely removed from the brain, which is an extreme genetic change and affects many systems in the body. The other study only looked at cartilage cells in a lab dish, not actual whole body growth. So jumping from that to “BDNF increases from nootropics will stunt growth” isnt really supported by the evidence. I like the theory though, maybe in the future we will have a clearer answer.
