Does thumbpulling help me fix underbite?

If I thumbpull on the sides which also helps me push the maxila forward, will it fix my underbite or is it all cope

I had palate expander before but my orthodontist thinks I might be too old

2-3 inches wider palate wont really help if you have bad base
also i think you should only get palate expander if your lower jaw is bigger than the upper jaw
