Does it actually work? I don’t want to waste time and effort just for it to not work

no jokes
probably like 8 years ago my music teacher told us about how young shaolin kids had to drink a shit ton of water
vomit it
and then vomitting it would bring like your stomach acid to your throat and corrode it and therefore making their voice deeper and thats why shaolin monks have deep voices for their chants

idk if she was jestering or not tbh

Of course it works, it's pretty obvious that it does. Singers, businessmen, actors, and even presidents use voicemaxing. It's a way of presenting your character, it's something that can control a room, sway minds, gain respect. It's practically a brainwashing tool having a powerful voice.

Anyone can train their vocal cords and speech habits. No clue what you mean by just saying 'voicemaxing' though, what are you trying to achieve?

A deeper voice
Yes, this is very possible. You wanna practice every day, do chanting vocal warmups as these will relax your vocal chords, example: humming as low as possible an "ohhhhmm" noise.
Other vocal cord relaxing warmups such as trills are good too.

Clear your throat and swallow your spit before talking, relaxing your vocal cords lowers the pitch of your voice.
You can buy mint pastilles to help relax throat muscles. They work, but temporarily.

Working out your neck muscles to get a stronger neck will make your voice lower, by giving more support and stability to your larynx which gives you more control over your voice and reduces strain on vocal cords & larynx

Stretching your neck muscles will reduce tension which allows the larynx to rest lower naturally which will deepen the voice.

And practice speaking techniques such as:

Lowering your pitch and consciously practice speaking at a slightly lower pitch. Avoid straining your voice; instead, find a natural, comfortable lower pitch.

Slowing down to speak more slowly and deliberately. This often naturally lowers your pitch and makes your voice sound more authoritative.

Chest resonance, focus on speaking from your chest rather than your throat. Feel the vibrations in your chest when you speak.
