After the gym with my brother I asked him, “Can I get in the drivers seat and drive just a few feet and then you can take over?”
He hesitated and looked about, pondering over the decision with a bit of disabled inhibition seeping into the atmosphere.
“Yes. Do you know to reverse it so we can get out of this parking spot?”
“yes,” I replied.
I got in the car and turned the ignition key. Something so foreign and coveted in my eyes, yet so familiar and taken for granted by the masses. The engine turned on. I put the car in reverse and accidentally steered the wrong way.
“Turn it the other way, man”, he said, frantically. He was like a father watching over his child taking its first steps.
I turned the car and began driving. I turned the car and started down the street. I pressed the gas a little too hard. He then said, “okay that’s enough”. We were about 20 feet away from where we started.
I got out of the drivers seat and went back to my spot — the Passenger.
I looked at him and remarked, “one day I’ll be able to drive.”
