I fucking hate this fucking shithole. I feel so betrayed. When I was a child, the average salary was like 200 euro a month. We were fucking miserable, we ate the worst goyslop, drove shitty cars, saved for a whole year to spend 7 days on some shitty beach/mountain destination in the summer, had old, slow tech, shit clothes. Few days ago, I read some statistics that the average salary is now 1700 fucking euro. And before you say that's nothing for Germany, Switzerland etc, consider we pay much lower taxes and how cheaper life here is compared to over there. Even then we're not quite Western Europe but the margin has been reduced so fucking much in the past few years, it's making my blood boil. Less and less people are going to slave away abroad, a lot of people are returning, the quality of life has improved so much compared to mid 2000s it's scary. I don't even need statistics to tell me, I can just look around me and how people are living and it's in there. I'd even go as far as saying the people in EE/Balkan capitals live better than a lot of people in Western Europe. Not because they earn more but because they're way more hedonistic. Middle class in here goes on 3-4 vacations a year, for example my cousins who are the definition of middle class, in 2024 they went to one of the expensive ski resorts in the Balkans for a couple of days, then a week in Greece in the summer, another week in the end of the summer to another Balkan coastal city and they spent NYE in Dubai. The same middle class would brag for months if they went to Greece or Italy 15-20 years ago. Now no one bats an eye and I see people traveling to the Maldives, Bali, Zanzibar etc all the time on facebook.

Upper class just takes flexing on a whole new level because balkanites aren't like westoids, once they get some money that they aren't used to, they want to live lavishly. That's why there are so many expensive cars on the streets of seemingly poor cities. I had a friend from France who was here for a month last year and he said he sees expensive cars more often than he does in France (Lyon). It's not an exaggeration, when a westoid climbs the social ladder and comes into money he tries saving and investing. Balkanites will immediately go to the dealership and get the latest S Class or 911.

Why this makes me mad and why I feel betrayed you might ask? I work remotely so this has a negative impact on me. My competition is getting richer, with higher salaries you get higher prices for everything so I'm fucked both ways. Why did I have to grow up in misery when I needed salaries to be high back in the day? And now when I'd have use of them being low, they're fucking rising by 10-15% every year? Idk where you are from but Serbia is not better off now compared to ten years ago. With rising salaries came rising prices. Compared to 20 years ago yeah we are better off, but its been downhill for the past 10 years no matter what Vucic tells you. At least that is my lived experience for what its worth.
