There’s this idea that people are inherently the same. So any difference in outcome between people is because they didn’t do something. The reason the homeless man doesn’t have the life of Sean O’pry is because he didn’t work hard enough.
Absolutely brutal. But even though this is not true founding a society against this principle may actually be more dangerous.
It’s clear it’s not the most capable people necessarily who make it to the top. The incompetence of our leaders should be proof enough of this.
Now imagine if these leaders were given absolute power. Just the thought is enough to horrify me. In a strictly hierarchical world what do you think is more likely. Do you think people will pass down power to those most capable or will they pass it down to their children, friends and family?
Very soon what you will have is a society run based off bloodline and connections not based of superiority which is the goal we wanted in the first place.
