I found out today that a 23 year old guy, called Jay Hellis, has passed away from brain cancer. I knew of his story for about 2 years now. I’d found out about it after just searching up about glioblastoma and stumbled across his story. (I do search a lot about glioblastoma after a singer, called Tom Parker, from my favourite band, The Wanted, passed away from it back in 2022).

When I first heard of his story in 2023, I was really happy to hear he was in remission. I did periodic check ups on his instagram account though just to keep an eye on him and see how he was doing.

Unfortunately in 2024 his cancer returned, and it was whilst his partner was pregnant with their first baby. And it had become evident that in the last few months he was declining. He sadly passed away on September 12th 2025.

The story is really haunting to me. Someone who would have been in my school year, who should have had many more decades alive, is just gone.

I didn’t know him at all personally, and he hadn’t done anything that would have impacted my life (besides his cancer battle). Yet I still feel a sense of grief to hear he has passed away. I wish that there was no reason for me to have ever heard of him. And that he was just living his life like he should be.

Rest in peace Jay Hellis (2002 - 2025) 🕊️

Such a tragedy. A young guy taken from this earth by such a cruel disease. His parents having to live with the pain of their son no longer being with them. His partner having to live with the love of her life gone. His child having to grow up without meeting her father.

Why do we live in such a cruel world like this?

To anyone here who thinks their struggles are too much… if you have your health, then you are not struggling.
Count yourself lucky that you are still able to live. There are people who are just like you, same age as you, that are fighting for their lives against terrible diseases like cancer.

Some people don’t get the luxury of growing old. But please don’t disrespect those who have been taken from us by cruel diseases by taking your lives.

That’s life. Death could come for you at any moment, and often by the time you discover what’s up it’s already too late. Truly tragic

I’m just trying to wrap my head around it all. He didn’t deserve to die so young. He deserved to live for many more years. And it’s gonna be something that affects his whole family for the rest of their lives. I really just wish that none of that ever happened to him (or to anyone to be honest).
