Forcing myself to write this essay even when I'm having resistance, as I'm trying to be more productive
Wherever your genetics or talents lie, how much you maximize it in today's day and age lies in these two things:
1) Stress or pain tolerance, and
2) Dopamine management
1) Stress/Pain tolerance
It doesn't need to be said how brutal, cut-throat and unfriendly society is getting today. You leave the house and you're hit with a weird, hostile atmosphere- nobody is trying to help anybody, everybody is out for themselves.
This applies even more to women and dating- the brutal biological realities are laid bare now, not covered up. Women are brutal on men they find unattractive.
This almost creates a dynamic where "the rich get richer, the poor get poorer". The chads and tall guys who get good validation, will go out there more and meet more people. The people who put up with bad reactions get more despondent and afraid, and stay at home.
Can apply this to anything- A black guy in the past may have to put up with so much shit in the corporate or Office world, that he'd be 'forced' into crime or a bad job.
This is the brutal physical realities stacked up against you.
Well, a few men have made it past brutal circumstances like this- They all had one thing in common- A high tolerance for stress and pain (talking more mental pain).
While another man may have been beaten down by the bad reactions, the doors being closed on him, the failures, the doubters- it may stress him, fuck with his emotions and demotivate him to the point of quitting....
The exceptional man refuses to let those external things stop him. He can tolerate that pressure and pain, and have his mind focussed on the big, compelling prize.
That guy has an internal locus of control- where he chooses to interpret any situation how he wants- and he interprets everything to push him to go harder.
Young men have been conditioned today to do the opposite. To shame themselves to shrink away and escape.
Which leads me to the next point:
2) Dopamine management
This is a thing that was not very hard to do 20 years ago, but now it's a skill that is of utmost importance.
So, let's say a guy has a very low stress/pain tolerance. He gets scared, doubtful and avoidant very easily. Maybe he is traumatized from a shit childhood/parenting, so any little challenge (meeting a girl on a date, trying to step up income) is too painful because it pokes at his low self-esteem within...
What will that guy do?
He will retreat into the world of fake dopamine. A world that is created by people who want you enslaved, and who want to make money off you.
A world that is growing in size so rapidly that it almost dominates their life, rather than the real world.
You know what this is: Porn, junk food, wasting time on the internet, netflix, watching others on Instagram/Tiktok etc.
Once you have escaped your trauma within, avoided the things you need to do, you are in a dopamine depravation. Stepping up and accomplishing hard things that you want to do, gives you dopamine. When you don't do that, you are in a dopamine deficit.
Everyone needs dopamine to live. If living didn't feel good in the slightest, you'd kill yourself.
So you go for those copes, you get dependent on them, hooked on them.
Most people aren't even aware of how dependent they are on this thing. Me, personally, I'm dependent on coffee, nicotine lozenges, junk food, porn, fantasy thoughts, thoughts of revenge, internet forums, watching sports stars etc. If I took all those away, for the next 30 days, I'd either become a totally different person, or rope.
Well, if you start to tolerate more stress/pain, and then manage your dopamine properly, you can have growth.
You're going to have to start monitoring the (fake) dopamine you take in every day, then as you start facing stress/pain more, taking this dopamine away, gradually replacing it with the real dopamine of achievement or sticking to your goals.
If you can understand these two things and master them, you can maximize your potential.
