Some people think this may have also played a role in Norman suddenly and without explanation, pulling his friendship away from Thrad, who had always been an amazingly supporting friend. Norman had been in love with this girl since they were 13. They would talk to her when they were in boarding school and would visit the girls at the girls' school. Norman always slowdanced with Lily first and they talked for years about everything, which was the hilight of his life. Norman decided he wanted to wait until they were all in college to break the news to Lily because he believed that it would have been wrong to tell her before then because they hadn't been out in the world yet. He had never told Thrad he was romantically interested in her and knows of very little previous interaction between Lily and Thrad. The following day, Thrad took Lily out on a date, although upon finding out later about Norman's many years crush, Thrad broke off all involvement with her.
