It's relatable, because I was always the 'gifted kid with massive potential'. Yet nobody ever cared for me or gave me any attention/rewards/fullfillment/joy/celebration whilst I had to keep on grinding and grinding to 'unlock that potential'.

I think that descending into drug-addiction was the reasonable choice given that people kept hanging a carrot on a stick in front of me: 'Only if you get xx degree, xx job, make xx money, then you will finally be good enough!'
Yet never getting there despite 21 years of being in the top 1% of my country in terms of academic achievements, talent, performance, discipline.

Coming in 16th at national physics olympiads, top performance in a lot of other things too.

At some point, the carrot on a stick aint gonna work anymore. You want real measurable life-quality, which I wasn't given. The end.

That's what happened to me. Adults assumed that because I was bright that I didn't need any guidance, probably assumed someone else was doing it, except no one was. So they just farted me out into the world when I was 18.

My parents were loving and nurturing, but they were also completely inept clowns with no clue how the world actually works.

but yeah, i vibe with you on that part that because you are smart and can do a lot of things on your own, adults instead of caring MORE about you, to unlock that potential, they have a hands-off approach where you get no guidance/help whatsoever.

just because you pass all the exams with good scores with little effort, results in adults putting ZERO resources into you. There is NOBODY who is putting in ANY EFFORT WHATSOEVER into getting your potential out of you.

Being a gifted kid is a curse. You get this massive burden of: 'you have massive potential, you need to become someone great or you have wasted it.'

yet nobody will actually help you ever, give you any guidance, NOTHING. You are now suddenly 'so gifted' that you can do EVERYTHING on your own?!
