Finally watched Midsommar; that was dissapointing.​

For those interested here is my analysis:

1. The pacing is incredibly slow. While slow pacing can effectively build tension, "Midsommar" is a slow-paced buildup to nothing noteworthy. Unlike a thriller or horror film, the drawn-out scenes make the movie plain boring.
2. It's just plain predictable. The heavy use of foreshadowing, such as the detailed murals and overt hints, removes any element of surprise. I saw the twists coming from miles away. Less foreshadowing would have been more in this case.
3. The characters are disappointingly flat and unrelatable. They lack the depth and complexity necessary to be engaging. Dani, Christian, and their friends come across as one-dimensional, making it difficult for me to form any emotional connection or care about their fates. They seem more like side characters in a low-budget TV show than protagonists in a major film.
4. The film's graphic scenes rely on shock value. Instead of being genuinely scary or shocking, they come off as forced and cringe-worthy. The excessive gore and bizarre rituals are designed to provoke a reaction rather than serve the story, making these scenes more laughable than terrifying.
5. The film is riddled with plot holes. Characters disappear, and the remaining characters barely react, which weakens credibility. Their lack of intelligence and awareness is frustrating, as they consistently make poor decisions that defy common sense. This illogical behavior made it hard for me to empathize with or care about them.
6. While the cinematography is objectively good, it becomes irrelevant when excellent camera work covers a poorly written and executed story. The beautiful visuals can't compensate for the lackluster plot and weak character development. The film's fundamental flaws overshadow how good it looks, making it feel hollow.
7. The symbolism is overly pretentious and too ambiguous.

Midsommar is unsuccessful as both a thriller and a horror film, and it falls short of being a good film regardless of which genre you assign to it.
The predictable plot, slow pacing, shallow characters, forced shock value, plot holes, low emotional depth, and pretentious symbolism make it a disappointing film that falls far below its potential.
Overall, I would give the film a 2/10. Two points for the good cinematography.
