if you're gonna grow facial hair it's all about shaping it.
the most important line of your facial hair will be your cheekline, which gives your beard and thus your lower third it's shape. The angle of this line is an often overlooked detail though.
If you want to create the illusion of a more wide/square jaw you have to angle your cheekline pretty flat. Here's an example:
As you can see, this dude's cheekline doesn't diagonally go from his mouth up to his ear, but rather follows the jaw pretty flat.
Where as this cheekline does the opposite, it REMOVES DEFINITION AND WIDTH from your jawline.
