The imperial system is pointless, I agree.

In regards to height, it should be simple: an inch is 2,5 centimeters. A foot is 30 centimeters.

Around 5-feet: 1 meter and 50 centimeters.
Around 6-feet: 1 meter and 80 centimeters.

Just added 30 centimeters, see?

Now in inches.

5'10" is 1 meter and 78 centimeters.

An inch is 2,5 centimeters, therefore by adding an inch to 5'10" the new height is 5'11" or 1 meter and 80 centimeters.

6-feet tall is 1 meter and 82 centimeters.

6'1" is 1 meter and 84,5 centimeters (although we round it up to 85 centimeters).

See? It's easy.
