I recommend that you do the following quickly:

Identify the people who take college seriously.
Identify people who know how college bureaucracy works (i.e., how to drop courses, which courses are recommended, which professors are good, etc.). These people are important because they can help you have a healthy academic experience.
Don't abuse drugs or alcohol. What I mean by this is that it's okay to go out partying with college students, especially in the early years, but don't overdo it.
Take advantage of getting to know and befriending intelligent people, because later on, when you have to do assignments or group projects, these people can help you.
Talk to intelligent people about topics related to your major. This will help you improve your ability to identify important aspects of the subject that you may have overlooked.
Try to do what people with more academic experience do.
Try to get to know people from older generations.
Make contacts.

And finally, try to build a portfolio. Try to become a teaching assistant for professors. Try to publish individual research papers, try to attend lectures, etc. Enroll or try to become a research assistant for the faculty or for a professor, etc. All of these things are valued.

It's easy to say but difficult to do. You need good grades so that teachers and classmates take an interest in you. You need to be well-educated (know general knowledge, literature, history, politics, math), people with great social power know all this as a basis, and good conversations and good relationships are built on similarity.

I am a few months away from graduating with a degree in Sociology; I currently have a degree in Social Sciences. I have been able to be a teaching assistant, and I am currently working on a research project with a professor. But, honestly, if I had done what I am telling you earlier, everything would have been much better.
