But it looks so easy. No wonder it’s so competitive.

Millions probably get good scores so unis need to select using other criteria

Its the most important factor, but it doesnt mean its a determining factor.
E.g harvard is not going to reject you just because you didnt volunteer at a care home or like work in a soup kitchen, there are so many ECs out there
But harvard is defintetly gonna reject u if u have a sub 1500 SAT, therefore its the most important
Then again, everyone as a 1500+SAT, so its not DETERMINING

Why aren’t AP scores more important ?

In the UK, A-level (16-18 results) results are by far the most important criteria for uni entrance

Idk im in the Uk education system
And yes a levels are the most important, along with entrance tests like TMUA or ESAT or UCAT
But then again, they are not DETERMINING, everyone has good scores on these

They are way more determining than the us system.

If you get 3 A*s and top grades on the TMUA you’ll almost certainly get into most good unis barring oxbridge ( where you’ll likely get an interview still) or maybe LSE ( need a very good personal statement)

It’s a much fairer system. You don’t need insane achievements like in the US.

Thats true but everyone has 4A*s and high TMUA
But I think I can get into LSE. I can write a damn good personal statement, I know I can get 4A*s and at least a 7.5 on TMUA , and I already have good GCSES, 11 9s

I just wanna give some perspective. this is the cambridge quality of applicants for econ. 203 ppl applied with 4 A*s and only 47 of them got accepted. Meaning even with 4A*s your chances of getting into cambridge are less than 1 in 4. Thats what I mean when I say a levels dont really matter
And im tryna apply for cambridge:lul:

Most people do get accepted into most Russell group unis with those stats with the exception of the top 5 maybe.

With your stats you should apply to Oxbridge, LSE, UCL ect.

Are you doing further maths ? The very best unis for econ are very maths heavy and usually want FM.

If you get a good TMUA, you should get an interview. Then the interview is by far the most important stage and that’s where a lot of people get rejected.

I think if you want to be a quant, you should do maths or something very maths heavy. I guess some econ degrees could also work but you’ll likely need a PHD too.

Equity trading is a good career in finance so go for it
