Yes when your there wear lifts you have to, trust me when your on the trains you’ll be lowk shocked how many tall people there are, I went there wearing no lifts at 5’10 and felt avg in Tokyo and Osaka.
now looking back most people were wearing lifts and heels, I just didn’t notice.

I think averages are measured differently in certain tests, like median vs mean
Like the avg person they collected said their height was 5’9 or many people said their height was 6ft but shorter people bring the avg down
