Diversity within groups doesn’t erase the value of shared cultural, historical, or sociological classifications in specific contexts. “White” is primarily an American concept, reflecting the blending of various European ethnicities into a unified identity. Given that most white Americans are a mix of these groups, basically a mutt, it makes sense as a general term for the European setteler population. Historically in the US, white people are and have been treated as one broader group, based on their common backgrounds and social circumstances.

Grouping them as “white” isn’t about erasing history but simplifying for modern contexts like race relations, especially in multicultural societies. Also, this "Eastern European uncle" trope is ridiculous, most care more about their paycheck than panicking over social classifications. Chill with the dramatics if you place the average pole next to a german you wont be able to spot the differance.

I think its just easier to group europeans via genetics and phenotype aka features, and dont bring the muh meds are swarthy trope, they still look european and usually just tan better under the sun than a northern euro, but they have more genetic similarities with each other
