The technology to be able to modify genetics in a living organism has existed for quite some time now. The ability to modify embryos genetics or "designer babies" has also been around for a while. I don't understand the reason why all researchers look for chemicals that fix the problem after it has started and using the chemical to help fix the by-product of the disease/illness/whatever instead of using gene editing to fix them at the source. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I do know DNA replicates itself so gene editing wouldn't even need to be a reoccurring treatment/fix. The entire human genome has been mapped out and discovered and researched to the point where we know which sets of genes result in higher likely hoods of some type of illness, disease, deformity, etc. Wouldn't it be applicable to fix and alter a persons genetics using this technology by mapping out their genes, using another persons set of genes that has the desirable trait, and implementing those genes in to the one looking for such desirable trait? We know it's possible with unborn babies. Perhaps we aren't doing it because it would evolve the human race which is something people don't want to do anymore. In theory gene therapy and manipulation would be able to solve literally every single problem with somebody from cancer to acne. Its just one of those things that doesn't get the attention it needs so it wont happen. It'd also be interesting to find out if altering the genes of someone who already is facing an issue would resolve the issue since it already occurred or if it would only be useful for preventative measures.
