It's water knowledge that genetics are THE most important factor when it comes to your looks. The inherited DNA within every single one of your cells is what tells your mandible to grow to certain shape, it's what tells your femurs to grow to a certain length, and it's what tells your hair follicles to do when exposed to androgens. It is an innate and inescapable part of us. But here's an especially brutal concept:
Genetic recombination.
Genetic recombination basically means you’re a random shuffle of your parents' genes. You could get a lucky combination, inheriting the "best" traits from 2 ugly parents, or even some hidden features that didn’t show in them but get expressed in you. But on the flip side, if your parents are good-looking, you could ALSO end up with the "bad" mix—getting stuck with recessive or unexpressed traits that make you less attractive. It’s all a gamble, and it’s not like you can control what you end up with, since this all happens during conception. It’s like being forced into a genetic lottery where you have no control over what you get, and sometimes, no matter how much you try to improve yourself, it just comes down to how the dice were rolled.
When genetic recombination goes right:
Leonardio Dicaprio inherited the best traits from his mother, and the best traits from his father. The genes combined in the perfect way, so he mogs his own parents
When genetic recombination goes wrong:
David and Victoria Beckham in their prime, and their sons (left to right) Romeo, Cruz, and Brooklyn in their prime. 2 of them shorter than their dad, and 2 of them are much less good looking than either parent.
So next time you wonder why you tower over your dad, or why your sister has more forward growth than you, remember that you have genetic recombination to thank or to curse.
Share below whether you got lucky with your parents genes coming together, or if they got wasted on you, "bhais"
