Just watched the social network...
...
Basically in the movie they had the choice to run advertising on their website and sell it etc after seeing initial success (a few thousand ppl signed up), but then they realized the reason for popularity is because it's "cool" (movie's words not mine) and they don't even know the potential the platform has/what it could turn out to be, which is pretty much this forum rn, as we see the spike in new users,
but I guess the website took the first route after seeing the increase in advertisements on here
Basically: TLDR is .org might be a generational new thing, like Facebook
