To get a lean face with hollow cheeks and visible bone definition at all times and in all lighting conditions, patience is a must.
You can have visible abs, a low body fat percentage and no obvious water retention but still have an undefined face without hollow cheeks that doesn't look sharp at all.
To get a truly chiseled face it's neccessary to get rid of even the tiniest remaining stubborn fat reserves that just don't seem to respond much or only very slowly to calorie restriction, dieting and exercise. In other words, attaining a single digit body fat percentage is not enough to get hollow cheeks/a defined face.
You have to keep forcing the body to use its own fat reserves as its main source of fuel. It may take many months to even years until all the visible fat in the face is gone - and this is AFTER already having a low body fat percentage. The leaner you get the harder it'll be to achieve further fat loss so a systematic approach including things like calorie cycling, intermittent fasting, high intensity interval training, diet breaks and even drugs might become neccessary.
The only factor between you and a chiseled face is time. Lots of it. Some will get there faster than others (differences in fat cell number and distribution/metabolic efficiency etc.). It's possible to accelerate the process but this will make it much more unhealthy.
I have less fat on me now than ever before (don't want to say "lean" yet) but my face is still an undefined ugly mess without hollow cheeks and paperskin. It'll take many more months/years until I can call my face truly lean.
Maybe this helps get rid of misperceptions/myths some of you might have regarding getting hollow cheeks and a chiseled face.
