If technology automates everything, that doesn't mean people will get rid of work and enjoy a better life, the vast majority will become unemployed and won't be able to make money anymore, no one is giving them money for free just because they simply exist...
Only the elites benefit from new technology that automates stuff and allows them to fire people, they don't have to pay or rely on others for their businesses.
Also as technology advances and everything is automated, a big population becomes a burden, the elites will live a much better life and have much more resources available to them, if the population would be significantly lower.
