The example I know of appears in Pirkei de' Rabbi Eliezer 24, a very late Midrash from the eighth or ninth century, which may already contain Islamic influences. How do we know they’re Amalek specifically? Because that’s the Edomite tribe whom the Most High said he would be at war with from generation to generation because they’re the head tribe of all the Edomites.
