Let's say you're armed with a handgun and your opponent ips armed with a baseball bat. Who would win? I know about the 21 foot rule that basically states that an attacker within that amount of space should be able to stab/slash/hack an officer before he's able to pull out his gun, and when you're taking self-defense classes you shoukd already know that one stab is all it takes. But this scenario was different. They were already with their weapons drawn, but they weren't separated any further than 21 feet. Could he have closed in? And he had a bat, not a knife. Just a different type of melee weapon, sure, but there's still a difference I think, because one hit is all it takes to knock somebody out or kill them.

Was what this old shirtless white guy smart? He literally egged him on to attack him (a big no-no in self-defense, because it's only self-defense when your life is actually in imminent danger and you're in a situation that you didn't involve yourself into voluntarily). And that is exactly what happened, he just got lucky is all. To those who haven't seen it, just to spoiler it for you: the guy in the orange shirt (Aaron Howard) still managed to hit him with the bat after being shot twice in the chest by throwing it at him, which struck him, receiving light injuries. After he tried to retreat, the younger shirtless guy hits him two more times in the head with a pump-action shotgun, mangling his fucking skull. The guy was pretty tough (legit) since he was still able to tell his wife he loved her in a muffled groan before he died.

Could they have conducted themselves better or is there some other issue at play here? I know the old dude with the pistol got 14 years in prison (the damn dude's in his 70s) so if there's one thing orangenigger got right is that both of them were going to jail.

21ft rule is for the average draw speed against a healthy sprinting male: 1.5s

most shooters can get it down to 1s with enough drilling, but decision-making and nerves can affect performance

About that part that I just highlighted, I know that the 21 ft rule applies to only drawing, maneuvering and preparation, but sometimes even when that's not the case and somebody with a bat meets somebody with a gun, the guy with the bat doesn't always lose just because their opponent is well-skilled and armed with a gun, because like you said, you've got to worry about decisionmaking and nerves in a real-life situation, since that'll all come to play. Here's one (rather rare) example:

>According to witnesses and those who investigated the case, just a few minutes prior, Officer Duggan was taking a right hand turn from Winter Street onto Lowell St. A car being driven by William Rodriguez of Lowell nearly hit him, continuing toward Broadway and finally came to a stop at a red light at the next corner. Officer Tom Duggan, Sr. was on his way to court that afternoon and in civilian clothes. He was driving his own car when he pulled up behind Rodriguez and his girlfriend Doris Ortiz of Lawrence. Witnesses said Duggan got out of his car, identified himself as a police officer as he approached them, but before he could say anything more, Ortiz jumped out of the passengers side of the car and advanced on him, hitting and pushing him in the middle of Lowell Street. Within seconds, Rodriguez also jumped out of the car brandishing a metal softball bat. He advanced on Officer Duggan slapping the bat in his hand over and over. Because it was broad daylight, and on a busy downtown street where kids were walking home from school, and pedestrians were walking close by, Officer Duggan pulled out his gun and ordered Rodriguez to put down the bat while he backed up into a the vacant lot. Duggan matched every advancing step by the perpetrators with a step back, luring them away from from innocent bystanders and into the vacant lot in case he had to shoot his weapon. But as Duggan reached the edge of the lot, Ortiz jumped on him, grabbed at the gun, and held his hands, just long enough for Rodriguez to beat him in the head with the bat. As Rodriguez came down with the first blow to Duggan’s head, he fired his weapon, but the bullet only grazed the neck of Ortiz while Rodriguez began beating him repeatedly. Police would later learn that Duggan tried to fire again but his gun had jammed.

>Witnesses said that Rodriguez continued beating him even after he fell to the ground and the two killers eventually fled the scene leaving Duggan in the dirt to die. As Officer Duggan was rushed to Lawrence General Hospital and while doctors were frantically working to save his life, Rodriguez pulled into the parking lot to drop off his girlfriend to get treatment for her superficial gun shot wound. Rodriguez never made it out of the parking lot as police cornered him and took him into custody, covered in Duggan’s blood.

>At the end, the two were acquitted of murder on a technicality.

all else being equal gun guy should “win” more often than not, since bat guy needs to land a good incapacitating headshot on a target that will likely be backing away several steps to make distance as they draw. but just because you land a few shots center mass doesn’t mean the attacker will drop dead. there are many cases where they eat bullets (almost always from a handgun) and continue running towards police

orange shirt guy wasn't even close to winning, it's a lose situation the moment the gun was already drawn.. I think the orange-shirt guy was attempting is to go john-wick and distract him by throwing the bat to disarm the neckbeard's revolver but failed.

most people wont attack someone armed with a handgun unless they are crackmaxxed
