I’m guessing it’s popular among the incel community because the villain protagonist was a psychotic looksmaxxer who fuck hookers and went ER at one points, whether it was all in his head or real life

A long time ago but I remember taking it as basically a critique on how soulless modern day culture is, the whole psycho part is just the superficial events of the plot. Also watch Leto and Bale chew scenery

It was a nice thriller movie about a psychopath serial killer who manages to get along with everybody.

I watched taxi driver, that was very uneventful

It’s a critique of how modern society is soulless, empty & extremely superficial- the world you are shown in the movie is one where people are concerned only with money and other materialistic pursuits. This is shown through the character himself in an extremely obvious way (he is a wealthy young hedge fund manager, and a psychopath who is completely empty emotionally, lacking feelings such as empathy. Plus he is extremely superficial which is shown through his obsession with his own looks, his own status within society, and maintaining a certain image.) This character is, of course, a serial killer, and his ability to seamlessly blend in with his surroundings and fit into society so harmoniously is, in my opinion an extremely well-done and understated critique of modern society. The main idea is essentially that, not only is it absolutely possible for psychopathic serial killers to exist within society, it is possible and even likely for them to assume high-status positions within society and be seen as highly successful on the surface. When I first saw this movie I was 15 and I didn’t understand it. When I saw it again a few years later, everything clicked. I think it is a very good movie.
